Foreign and Diaspora Affairs CS Alfred Mutua has emphasized the importance of showing respect towards Meg Whitman, the US Ambassador to Kenya.
He commended the Kenyan Government’s openness to the straightforward and candid remarks she made regarding the positive advancements Kenya has achieved over the past year.
Mutua said Whitman’s comments about last year’s election outcome were based on accurate information and acknowledged the democratic process through which Kenya’s constitutional institutions oversaw a credible electoral procedure, guiding the nation towards a path of transformation.
“The role of an Ambassador is to represent their country diplomatically. We embrace the recognition that the United States Ambassador, drawing from her robust background in the private sector, has discerned the significant potential within Kenya under the leadership of President William Ruto. She has identified the promise and direction of our country and does not warrant any form of retaliation from any party,” Mutua remarked.
In an official statement, Mutua conveyed that the Ambassador’s message aligns harmoniously with Kenya’s “Kenya Kwanza” economic empowerment strategy, and the nation extends its gratitude to her for conveying the truth even when it might be unsettling for those in denial.
“We hold our collaborative partners in high esteem, and members of the Diplomatic corps should not feel uneasy due to baseless intimidations,” the Cabinet Secretary asserted, adding that should any issues arise between Kenya and a diplomat or country, it is the responsibility of the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs to arrange discussions for clarification.
“The authority to recall an Ambassador rests solely with the Government of Kenya,” Mutua stated.
“As a governing body, we are committed to collaborating with those who align with our transformative agenda, and we invite partners who recognize Kenya’s positive trajectory,” he emphasized.
