Pastor Ezekiel Odero is contesting the decision made by the Registrar of Societies to revoke the registration of his ministry, Newlife Prayer Centre and Church.
Ezekiel asserts that the State’s action to deregister his ministry lacks legality and should be invalidated.
With the support of his legal team, Ezekiel Odero is urging the Attorney General to review the situation and respond within the next 90 days.
Ezekiel, in collaboration with his legal representatives, maintains that while the appeal is underway, the church will continue its operations as they await communication from the Attorney General’s office.
Lawyer Martina Swiga expressed, “This appears to be an attempt to hinder his ministry. We are acting swiftly to ensure the Attorney General gives us due consideration.”
The legal team raised questions about the timing of the Gazette Notice, which was issued recently despite the ministry’s deregistration occurring back in May.
“This timing is suspect. It strongly indicates bias against Pastor Ezekiel,” the legal team commented.
Lawyer Danstan Omari emphasized, “No notifications of closure have been received. The necessary show cause notice, as mandated by the constitution and regulations, has not been served.”
According to a Gazette Notice dated August 3, 2023, four additional churches have also faced deregistration.
Among these are Goodnews International Ministries, which faced cancellation on May 19, and Helicopter of Christ Church, which lost its registration on May 19, 2023.
Furthermore, the Royal Park Home Owners Estate Association Langata, initially registered as a society, had its registration annulled on June 19, 2023.
