Repentance Holiness Church, which is led by Prophet David Owuor has distanced itself from allegations connecting the deregistration of its former branch, King’s Outreach, to the Shakahola massacre in Kilifi County.
Senior Archbishop Major Gen. (Rtd) George Kyaka has said that the closure of the Church was not prompted by any unlawful activities. Instead, he clarified that it was a result of internal deliberations within the leadership.
Archbishop Kyaka further explained that during an Annual General Meeting convened on December 3, 2022, a decision had been made to dissolve the King’s Outreach branch. This step was taken in order to streamline financial expenses and channel the Church’s efforts towards reinforcing Repentance Holiness Church as the central focus.
Kyaka further elaborated that this resolution had been formalized well before the Shakahola incident came to light earlier this year.
He explained, “The decision to dissolve the branch was advised by the registrar of societies to streamline administrative processes, including filing returns. This resolution was established well ahead of the Shakahola situation.”
A local newspaper had reported on Friday that the Church, supposedly associated with Prophet Dr. David Owuor, was facing potential closure. The report led to speculation that the Church might be linked to the occurrences at Shakahola.
In response, the Church is now demanding a public apology from the mentioned media outlet within the next 24 hours. If this request is not met, they have warned of taking legal action to address the issue.
The legal representatives of Dr. Owuor, the Church’s leader, emphasized, “The article erroneously claims that Owuor is connected to the Church. However, this ministry had already been dissolved in December 2022. By the time of the Shakahola events, Kings’ Outreach Church was no longer in existence. Our client, Prophet Owuor, bears no association with the incidents at Shakahola.”
