Kenyans have been woken up today by a viral video showing people who are believed to be Al Shabaab insurgents attacking a construction site and shooting people indiscriminately.
The video which appears to have been shot at a construction site run by a Chinese contractor, has angered many Kenyans who have taken to ‘X’ to complain about the inability of the government to provide protection to its citizens.
While it is indeed true that the video was shot at a construction site in Lamu, our fact-checkers have confirmed that it is not a recent video.
Five people were killed and three others, including a Chinese national, were wounded when “bandits” ambushed the construction site. A motorcycle rider who was caught in the crossfire was also killed.
According to CTNIS, “The intent of the video is to quantify violence against non-Muslims, derail the construction of the LAPSSET Project, & psychologically scare Kenyans ahead of attacks.”
