Martha Karua, co-principal of the Azimio coalition, has refuted recent statements made by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka regarding the coalition’s recognition of President William Ruto as a legitimate Head of State.
Responding to a media report quoting Kalonzo’s assertion that the coalition acknowledges Ruto, the leader of Narc Kenya firmly denied these claims.
“That’s not accurate,” stated Karua in response to the reports.
During the funeral of Wiper-nominated MCA Constance Mkamburi Mwandawiro in Voi, Taita Taveta County, Kalonzo made remarks suggesting that they now consider Ruto as the legitimate president.
Kalonzo attributed this shift in recognition to Ruto’s commitment to fostering bipartisan discussions between the Kenya Kwanza faction and Azimio.
“We are determined to maintain open discussions, and no one will deter us. I must commend the President for his resolute stance in supporting ongoing dialogue,” Kalonzo asserted.
“In light of his unwavering commitment, we, too, are increasingly recognizing him.”
Kalonzo clarified that the coalition’s only concern stemmed from comments made by Deputy Rigathi Gachagua, who consistently downplayed the prospects of fruitful discussions.
“We have no qualms with anyone, but we are troubled by certain individuals’ statements. For example, the Deputy President’s remarks at a funeral in Ukambani were quite astonishing to the people of Machakos, leaving some in disbelief,” Kalonzo concluded.
