New information has come to light regarding the perplexing murder of Eric Maigo, the Acting Finance Director of Nairobi Hospital, who was fatally stabbed nearly two weeks ago.
The alleged perpetrator, believed to be a minor, has now claimed that she stabbed Maigo in an act of self-defense, alleging that she was a victim of sexual assault.
According to reports, the suspect informed detectives that Maigo had picked her up by the roadside after she had been forced to leave her home due to a dispute with her guardian.
On Wednesday, the 16-year-old suspect appeared before Magistrate Zainabu Abdul at the Milimani Law Courts, following a miscellaneous application filed by Corporal Patrick Boge.
The application stated that the police needed to conduct mental and age assessments on the suspect, as is required before facing murder charges.
The court approved the application, granting detectives permission to detain the accused for the next 21 days while investigations proceed. During this time, the suspect will undergo both age and mental assessments before the trial.
Additionally, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is working to determine whether the suspect acted alone or if there were others involved.
The arrest of the girl occurred on Tuesday night after a concerned Kenyan provided credible information through the Fichua line of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, leading to the suspect’s apprehension.
Eric Maigo’s lifeless body was discovered on September 15th, lying in a pool of blood in his bedroom, bearing 25 stab wounds. Two kitchen knives found at the scene have been preserved as evidence.
The police also require time to forward the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for review and guidance, in addition to preparing for the suspect’s appearance in court for further legal proceedings.
