A roadside bomb targeting a Passenger Service Vehicle (PSV) traveling from Wajir to Mandera County claimed the life of the driver and injured his four passengers after striking an Improvised Explosive Devise (IED) in Qurqura area (between Alungu and Elwak Towns).
The roadside blast also resulted in four passengers sustaining severe injuries from shrapnel from the homemade bomb.
The injured individuals were rushed to Mandera Level Five Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical care.
At the time of going to press, no one had claimed responsibility for the attack. However, authorities suspect the involvement of Al-Shabaab militants in this IED attack.
The extremist group has been consistently targeting Kenyan security forces in the region, and especially in North Eastern Kenya. Al Shabaab has also been known to carry out attacks in Coastal regions of Kenya as well.
The militant group has targeted locals in counties bordering Somalia with the government committing resources to stamp out the insecurity.
