Former Citizen TV journalist Kimani Mbugua is expressing his gratitude for the support he received from compassionate Kenyans during his time of need.
In a series of Instagram stories on Friday, Mbugua shared that the financial assistance he received from many individuals has helped him get back on his feet.
Overwhelmed with gratitude, Mbugua conveyed his appreciation to all those who contributed, regardless of the amount, whether it was as little as Sh20, Sh50, Sh100, or as generous as Sh100,000.
He mentioned that with the contributions received, he has been able to purchase essential equipment as he endeavors to rekindle his career in journalism.
“I bought a new recording device and a lapel microphone, which means I am returning to the streets where I belong,” Mbugua joyfully expressed.
From his hometown in Thika, where he grew up, Mbugua plans to take to the streets to seek out stories and interview local residents.
“We will be doing many things on the streets, having fun, just as we always do. So, stay tuned because it’s coming very soon. But for now, I just want to say thank you. Thank you so much to everyone who contributed,” Mbugua gratefully acknowledged.
Mbugua’s journey to seek support began when he was discharged from the hospital in late September of this year.
In a viral video following his hospitalization, he revealed that he had faced significant challenges, having fallen ill in 2020 and subsequently being diagnosed with bipolar mood disorder.
During this challenging time, he found himself homeless as the people who had previously provided him shelter asked him to find alternative accommodations.
“I came to look for somebody else who could host me, but I didn’t find anyone. I just need your help,” he candidly shared in the video.
Remarkably, just one week after leaving the hospital, Mbugua had already formulated a business plan and crafted his first proposal for a client while establishing a business structure. He expressed a desire to collaborate with a dedicated business partner who could provide financial support to help materialize his business ideas.
Mbugua’s journey in the media industry began when he joined Nation Media Group as a university student in training at the age of 19.
He spent three years with the radio department at Nation before moving to Royal Media Services, where he worked for various outlets, including Citizen TV, Inooro FM, and Hot 96.
