Shabana secured their first win of the season by defeating former champions Tusker 1-0 in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) match at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, on a Friday afternoon.
The crucial goal came in the second half, courtesy of substitute Vincent Nyabuto, delighting the thousands of Shabana fans who had traveled to support their team.
Tusker’s head coach, Robert Matano, made two changes to the lineup from their previous match against FC Talanta, with Deogratious Ojok and Mike Oduor getting starting positions instead of Eric Kapaito and David Odoyo.
On the other side, Shabana’s Sammy Okoth also made changes, introducing Enock Obiero and Dennis Wafula in place of Samuel Maiko and Vincent Nyabuto as they aimed to secure their first top-flight league victory of the season.
Tusker dominated possession early on, but Shabana’s defense held firm, frustrating their attempts to breach the goal defended by Eric Ongiri.
The game’s intensity grew, with both teams creating opportunities. Shabana’s Brian Magare hit the crossbar with a header, while Tusker’s Brian Bwire made crucial saves to deny the visitors.
In the 69th minute, Shabana broke the deadlock when Vincent Nyabuto capitalized on a lapse in the Tusker defense to make it 1-0.
Tusker tried to mount a comeback, but Shabana’s goalkeeper thwarted their efforts, ensuring Shabana ended the match as 1-0 winners.
