A 32-year-old man from Voi town, Taita Taveta County, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the defilement of a 15-year-old girl.
Bryson Mwanyange Mwangala, employed as a casual worker, was accused of committing the act on February 6 in Lokichogio village in Maungu.
During the proceedings, five witnesses gave their testimony in the case.
Chief Magistrate Mildred Obura declared that the case had been substantiated. She pointed out that Mwangala could not distance himself from the offense of defilement, a violation under Section 8(1) in conjunction with Section 8(3) of Sexual Offense Act No. 3 of 2006.
Justice Obura emphasized that the prosecution successfully established crucial elements, including the minor’s age, penetration, and the act of defilement, in proving the case against the accused.
