Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, has undergone a leg amputation procedure due to a persistent health condition that had plagued him for several months.
Mr. Ibu is a renowned Nigerian actor and comedian celebrated for his uproarious roles in numerous Nollywood movies. The Enugu-born actor has featured in more than 200 Nollywood movies.
They include Mr Ibu (2004), Mr Ibu and His Son, Coffin Producers, Husband Suppliers, International Players, Mr Ibu in London (2004), Police Recruit (2003), 9 Wives (2005), Ibu in Prison (2006) and Keziah (2007).
The news of his amputation was officially shared on his Instagram account.
“At 1 pm today, Mr. Ibu successfully underwent seven surgeries, albeit, to sustain his life and enhance his recovery prospects, one of his legs had to be amputated. This has been an incredibly challenging journey for us, but we’ve had to accept it as his new reality to ensure his survival,” said the statement.
In light of these circumstances, the actor’s family has made an appeal to the Nigerian community to continue extending their support.
They conveyed, “We humbly request ongoing assistance from compassionate Nigerians during this critical phase. Mr. Ibu is still in a fragile state, and he requires all the support he can receive.”
“We express our deep gratitude to everyone, and we genuinely appreciate your unwavering support. Once he stabilizes, Mr. Ibu intends to personally acknowledge each individual who stood by him during this challenging period.”
