Widely regarded as one of the best passers of a ball in the game, Kevin de Bruyne is used to providing assists on the pitch.

But the Manchester City midfielder had to take to social media to dismiss speculation he was providing assists off the pitch. The speculation came after ‘K. De Bruyne’ was listed as a co-writer on rapper Drake’s new song Wick Man.

The song, part of Drake’s surprise EP release ‘Scary Hours 3’, prompted fans on social media to hail last year’s top Premier League assist-maker for his apparent song-writing exploits – questioning whether there is anything the Treble winner can not do.

The 32-year-old joined in with commenting on the funny coincidence, joking on X that Drake “needed an assist” and sharing a photo of the two together before denying the suggestions in a second post.

“All jokes aside, it’s not me! Huge fan though!” said De Bruyne.

The Belgian star posted the same quip on Instagram where City team-mate Erling Haaland commented “he is not alone” in reference to De Bruyne’s absence from the squad this season through injury.

De Bruyne assisted Haaland eight times in the Premier League last season – sending 26 of his 98 chances to the Norwegian striker – but has not featured since the first game of this campaign after picking up a hamstring injury.

He has made 153 assists while playing for City with 102 coming in the top flight, the fourth-highest tally in the history of the Premier League.

De Bruyne’s 18 assists last season resulted in him winning a third playmaker award since joining City in 2015.
