Police officers drawn from Juja, in Kiambu County, have made a significant seizure of fake alcoholic beverages as part of their ongoing efforts to crack down on tax evasion by liquor vendors.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reports, the bust was made by a team of officers who conducted a raid at a residence in Chai estate within the Kenyatta Road area.

During the operation, the officers confiscated more than 2,500 bottles of counterfeit alcoholic spirits.

Also seized were 24,000 pieces of fake Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) stamps, and 40 liters of ethanol.

The DCI released a statement saying, “Over 2,500 bottles of counterfeit spirits meant for sale locally were recovered through a meticulous operation carried out by detectives from the Economic and Commercial Crimes Unit in collaboration with Kenya Revenue Authority officials.”

Furthermore, the DCI highlighted that the seized counterfeit liquor had been cleverly packaged in bottles bearing the branding of well-known local varieties such as Smart Vodka, Supa Vodka, Blue Ice, and People Vodka.

Authorities have initiated a thorough investigation to trace the origin of the confiscated ethanol and the fraudulent KRA stamps.
