Posta Rangers brought an end to their three-game winless streak with a convincing 3-1 victory over Shabana FC at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Saturday.
Despite their recent draws, Posta Rangers held their top position on the table. However, the pressure was mounting with Gor Mahia and Murang’a Seal closing in just a point behind. Coach John Kamau’s team utilized the two-week international break effectively, evident in their performance against Shabana.
Posta Rangers took an early lead with Felix Oluoch scoring in the fifth minute. Shabana quickly responded, with Eugene Mukangula equalizing in the 10th minute. Undeterred, Posta Rangers intensified their attacks, and Brian Otieno hammered in a thunderbolt in the 18th minute to regain the lead.
Shabana’s struggles continued as defensive confusion led to an own goal by goalkeeper Eric Ongiri, extending Posta Rangers’ lead to 3-1. The soggy pitch, affected by heavy rains in Machakos, prompted the leaders to lower the tempo, strategically holding onto their advantage.
Posta Rangers controlled the game in the second half, securing all three points and maintaining their top spot with 25 points, four ahead of second-placed Gor Mahia. Gor Mahia was scheduled to play away against Muhoroni Youth on Sunday.
On the other hand, Shabana, under interim coach Oscar Kambona, remained in 14th position with 10 points. This match was Kambona’s second in charge since taking over from Sammy Okoth just before the international break.
