Safaricom has taken a significant step to make high-speed 5G internet more accessible to customers across 35 counties by reducing the prices of 5G routers by a substantial 60 percent.

This move aims to bridge the digital divide and empower underserved communities with cutting-edge connectivity.

The price for these 5G routers has been dramatically reduced from Ksh.25,000 to an affordable Ksh.9,999, marking a substantial cost reduction for users seeking faster and more reliable internet access.

In an official statement released on November 1, Safaricom’s CEO, Peter Ndegwa, underlined the company’s commitment to driving digital transformation in Kenya.

He emphasized the transformative potential of 5G technology to narrow the digital gap in underserved regions, improve access to essential services such as healthcare, and foster economic growth by linking small businesses to new opportunities.

“As a champion of the digital lifestyle, we are enthusiastic about the 5G future, which holds the promise of eliminating the digital divide in underserved areas, enabling access to crucial services like healthcare, and catalyzing economic growth by connecting small enterprises to fresh possibilities. By expanding 5G coverage, we are enhancing Kenya’s premier internet network and enabling our customers to explore the potential of 5G,” stated Ndegwa.

Furthermore, Safaricom is introducing an 18-month contract option for eligible customers, allowing them to acquire the 5G router at no cost, further reducing barriers to entry.

The expansion of 5G services has also led to an increase in Wi-Fi offerings for home consumers, providing a range of data packages. Customers can now choose from options like 400GB for Ksh.3,499, 800GB for Ksh.5,999, or 1500GB for Ksh.9,999.

For businesses, Safaricom is offering unlimited 5G Wi-Fi packages, starting at Ksh.4,000 for 10 Mbps, catering to the need for constant, high-speed connectivity.

Safaricom has established three 5G experience centers in collaboration with Huawei, where Kenyans can explore the potential of 5G firsthand. These centers offer virtual reality gaming zones, smart home and enterprise solutions, and speed-testing booths, enabling individuals to experience the capabilities of 5G technology.

In addition to these developments, Safaricom has introduced 5G data bundles, catering to over 500,000 customers with 5G-enabled smartphones, ensuring they can enjoy lightning-fast browsing speeds.

New 5G customers are also entitled to claim a complimentary 5GB data bundle through the My Safaricom App, making the transition to 5G even more appealing.
