Seven terror suspects were apprehended on Sunday at Hawinga area within Alego-Usonga in Siaya County after a joint operation involving officers from the Kenya Police, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Siaya, Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) Busia, and a specialized team from Nairobi
The operation, triggered by intelligence reports, targeted Hawinga and Uranga areas. During the operation, the team successfully arrested six suspects. The suspects were found in possession of various crude weapons, including 2 pangas, one rungu, 3 knives, and a collection of Islamic literature.
Expanding their efforts, the multi-agency team extended operations to Nyandorera area at Udamayi village, resulting in the arrest of an additional suspect.
The subsequent search revealed several items, including Islamic literature and writings, an Arafat shawl, an Islamic hut, a small military bag, a pair of scissors, one pliers, a pair of safety boots, about 200 grams of cannabis sativa seeds, one big spear, and one black catapult.
All seven suspects have been taken into custody and are currently held at the Siaya police station pending further investigations.
The operation marks a collaborative effort among various law enforcement agencies to address and neutralize potential security threats in the region. Authorities remain vigilant in their commitment to maintaining public safety and thwarting any potential acts of terror.
