A major traffic jam has paralyzed the Nairobi-Mombasa highway due to a trailer accident that occurred at the Makindu-Kiboko area.

The incident unfolded when a trailer overturned and obstructed the road around 6 pm on Sunday, causing immediate congestion on the highway.

Efforts to swiftly clear the blocked road were thwarted by heavy rainfall in the region, forcing hundreds of travelers to spend the night stranded on the road. Fresh attempts to remove the trailer began early Monday morning.

This gridlock on the vital highway coincides with President William Ruto’s scheduled visit to Makindu, Makueni County. During his visit, he is expected to lead a national tree-planting exercise.

More to follow.
