A businesswoman is missing under mysterious circumstances after leaving the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters on Thursday.

Anne Njeri Njoroge had been summoned to record a statement regarding the importation of 100,000 metric tonnes of diesel from Turkey, valued at Ksh17 billion.

The businesswoman’s lawyer, Cliff Ombeta, expressed concern over the authorities’ denial of knowledge about her whereabouts. He questioned how they could be unaware of her location considering she had officially presented herself at their offices.

According to DCI detectives, the businesswoman left the premises after completing her statement. However, her phone has since been switched off, and a search party has failed to locate her.

“No one can trace her and her phone is off. The officers claim they don’t know anything about her and she has not been presented before any court 24 hours later,” said Ombeta.

The DCI is reportedly investigating how the businesswoman managed to import such a large quantity of oil.

Ombeta maintains that his client adhered to all regulations and guidelines governing fuel importation. He clarified that she partnered with individuals authorized to import fuel and had complied with all requirements before bringing the oil into the country.

The businesswoman’s family is deeply distressed over her disappearance and is urging the authorities to expedite their investigation. They fear for her safety and hope for her safe return.
