Music and video lovers in Kenya can now rejoice as YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Premium have officially launched in the country. This marks a significant expansion of Google’s premium services across the African continent.
The announcement was made by Google Africa on Wednesday, December 6th, via a post on X. The post detailed the various subscription plans available to Kenyan users.
“Wassup Kenya? YouTube Music and YouTube Premium are now available in +254. Get it today and enjoy YouTube ad-free,” the post proclaimed.
Individual users can subscribe to YouTube Premium for Ksh.499 on Android and $4.99 on iOS. This subscription grants them ad-free viewing, background play, and offline video downloads.
For those looking to share the benefits of YouTube Premium with their families, a premium family plan is available for Ksh. 949 on Android and $9.49 on iOS.
YouTube Premium includes YouTube Music Premium, which gives subscribers access to over 100 million ad-free songs, even when the screen is locked.
Background play is enabled by default for YouTube, YouTube Music, and YouTube Kids. This means that if a user is watching a video on YouTube and exits the app, the video will continue playing in the background until it is paused.
Additionally, subscribers can download content for offline viewing, allowing them to enjoy their favorite videos and music even when they don’t have an internet connection. Downloaded content remains accessible for up to 30 days.
Canceling a YouTube Premium subscription is a simple process and can be done through the Paid Membership page.
Beyond Kenya, YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Premium have also been introduced in Senegal and Ghana. This expansion reflects Google’s commitment to providing high-quality entertainment experiences to users across Africa.
