Police in Nairobi are investigating the brutal murder of a young woman who was stabbed to death at an AirBnb in South B on Tuesday, January 02.
Scarlet Wahu Mwangi was found dead at an apartment she had checked in with a man claiming to be her boyfriend on Wednesday morning.
This is after, the apartment’s owner Florence Ngina reported to Makadara Police Station that the building’s watchman had seen a man running from the house with bloodied clothes in the middle of the night.
Officers from the Makadara Police Station who rushed to the scene found Scarlet’s naked body with stab wounds on the neck and feet.
Also found on the house, number Y32 located on the fourth floor of Papino Apartments, was a used condom, an empty whiskey bottle, bhang, and two used HIV home test kits.
DCI officers, working with information availed by police on the scene, traced the suspect using his mobile phone to Mbagathi Hospital where he was being treated for stab wounds.
The suspect who was identified as John Matara, 34, claimed to be Starlet’s boyfriend.
“Investigations are ongoing. We want to know the reason why he killed her after making her go through all these processes,” said Judith Nyongesa, the police commander, Makadara.
According to preliminary investigations, Matara killed Starlet after having sex with her on the day she died.
Additionally, they might not have been in a long-term relationship and might have probably met for a night out of fun that turned tragic.
What is not clear and which will probably take weeks to find out is the motive of the murder.
Who is Starlet Wahu Mwangi?
Starlet, 26, was a socialite and famous sister to Pastor Victor Kanyari. Her mother Lucy Nduta is also a famous pastor who also goes by the title ‘prophetess’.
The family has however not been shy of controversies.
In 2018, Prophetess Lucy Nduta, was jailed for two years after being found guilty of offering fake HIV cure through miracle prayers at her church at the Kenya Railways godowns in Nairobi.
Reverend Victor Kanyari, Starlet’s brother, would later on be on the spotlight for scamming innocent worshippers for prayers that cost ‘Ksh 310’.
Despite Starlet coming from a Christian family, it’s clear she was not the conservative type often posting raunchy photos of her waspy figure, partying out, and many piercings on her nipples.
Her social media handles where she referred to herself as Icey Wife are filled with an over-the-top life style and sexy photos.
In 2020 she even claimed that her brother had bought her a Toyota Landcruiser V8 for her 21st birthday.
Announcing the arrival of her birthday gift from her big brother, Wahu told her Instagram fans,
“So my brother Julius surprised me with a new car today. He said Happy early birthday he will not be around on my 22nd birthday. I am so grateful to him and to God cause honestly, I feel like I do not deserve these blessings,” Wahu wrote then.
