One more person has succumbed to injuries sustained during the Embakasi gas explosion, bringing the total number of fatalities to seven, according to a statement by Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura.

On Tuesday, four suspects in the Embakasi gas explosion case appeared before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Milimani.

The suspects, currently held at Capitol Hill police station, are awaiting a ruling on their custodial application scheduled for 2:00 pm on Wednesday.

In a miscellaneous application, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) sought to have the suspects – Derrick Kimathi (the proprietor of the plant), Joseph Makau, David Walunya Ong’are, and Marrian Mutete Kioko – remanded to facilitate ongoing investigations.

Simultaneously, Linet Cheruiyot is being held at Embakasi police station and is expected at the Makadara Court for a ruling on custodial orders.

The government’s relief efforts have ensured that all victims who sought refuge at Embakasi Social Hall have been reintegrated into the community or provided with alternative accommodation.

Government Spokesperson Mwaura emphasized that relief efforts extend beyond immediate shelter needs, focusing on long-term support for the affected families.

The fire erupted at Mradi village in Embakasi after a lorry carrying gas cylinders exploded at around 11:30 pm on Thursday.
