A police officer caused commotion on Tuesday when he arrived at his workplace at Githiga Police Station in Kiambu while drunk.
According to the police, the officer, appearing intoxicated, reported for his night shift and soon began verbally abusing civilians who had come to the station to file reports.
The situation escalated as the officer chased away the civilians, closed the station gate, and denied public access. In the ensuing commotion, one civilian suffered injuries to the head and limbs after being assaulted by the unruly police officer.
Other officers responded to distress calls from the civilians, attempting to calm their colleague.
However, their efforts proved futile, leading the rogue officer to assault a senior female officer. Recognizing the escalating danger, fellow officers intervened, restraining and subduing the unruly officer by pinning him to the ground.
Subsequently, the arrested police officer was confined in a cell pending presentation and arraignment in court.
The officer who is now a suspect will face charges of drunk and disorderly conduct, creating a disturbance within the police precincts, and assaulting and using insubordinate language against a senior officer.
