A 45-year-old man in the United States has admitted this week to the gruesome killing of a sex offender during a drug-related dispute. Nicholas McGee, currently in custody in Virginia on an identity fraud case, confessed to the authorities that he committed the crime in March 2022.

The victim, identified as Kawsheen Gelzer, had his severed head hidden in McGee’s New York apartment freezer for nearly two years.

McGee disclosed that he confronted Gelzer over drugs and, during the altercation, told him he deserved to be killed.

In an exchange for a cigarette, McGee revealed to the police that he responded to Gelzer’s final question, “why,” by stating, “Because you’re a piece of s-t! And I’m sick of you!” In a shocking admission during a one-hour interview, McGee admitted to dismembering Gelzer’s body while sharing a bottle of vodka with his wife, Heather Stines, 45. They then searched Gelzer’s pockets for drugs, which they subsequently smoked.

Ms Stines, last month, informed the police about McGee’s involvement in the murder, claiming it resulted from a fight over drugs. McGee clarified that the alleged murder occurred on March 22, 2022, contrary to initial police beliefs that it happened in August-September 2023, as Gelzer was reported missing in August 2023.

According to McGee’s account to the New York Post, he considered himself the victim, expressing frustration with Gelzer for withholding drugs, despite the couple routinely letting him stay on their couch. McGee also alleged that Gelzer, a registered sex offender since a 2005 conviction for molesting a 12-year-old boy, was disrespectful to them.

The horrifying sequence of events unfolded when Gelzer fell asleep on the couple’s couch. McGee reportedly attacked him with a kitchen knife, leading to a struggle, multiple stabbings, and blows with a hammer. As Gelzer pleaded for an explanation, McGee stated he was tired of him and, during the killing, rifled through the dying man’s pockets to retrieve the drugs previously denied.

Ms Stines asserted her presence at home but denied participating in the crime. The couple left the mutilated body in their apartment for several days until signs of decomposition appeared. They used a small saw to dismember Gelzer’s body, placing the parts in plastic bags stored in a suitcase within their fridge. Although considering disposing of the remains, they deemed it too complex with other residents in the busy building, according to the police.
