Six Kenyan social media personalities, including Official Kinuthia, have received nominations for the 2023 TikTok Creator Awards scheduled for February 9, 2024, in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Dennis Ombachi, also known as the Roaming Chef, a rugby player turned TikTok star, emerged as the overall winner of TikTok’s inaugural Top Creator 2022 award ceremony.
The previous year’s awards took place at a vibrant ceremony at the Mövenpick Hotel and Residences in Nairobi, hosted by former TV presenter and PR guru Anyiko Owoko. Ombachi is anticipated to attend the second edition of the ceremony in South Africa to present an award.
In December 2023, TikTok fans participated in voting for their favorite creators on the platform, with winners selected through a combination of public votes and evaluation by a TikTok judging panel. Each category had one winner.
Bianca Sibiya, Head of Content Operations for TikTok in Sub-Saharan Africa, emphasized TikTok’s commitment to promoting creativity and fostering global connections. She stated, “Our platform empowers anyone to become a creator and share their stories while building careers. These awards are designed to inspire, guide, and empower the next generation of talent to take Africa to the world.”
Official Kinuthia has been nominated in the ‘Trailblazer of the year in Sub-Saharan Africa’ category, where he will compete with Nigerian creator ‘Olaoflagos_.
