Opposition leader Raila Odinga has urged the government to take swift action in supporting and compensating the victims affected by the recent gas explosion in the Mradi area of Embakasi, Nairobi.

Odinga has further called on the government to pay each affected person Ksh 500,000. In addition to the funds, he has also demanded for each victim to be given a house under Ruto’s pet project – the affordable housing scheme.

While addressing residents of Mradi at the site of the tragedy on Tuesday, Odinga emphasized the need to provide immediate assistance to the affected families.

“We advocate for each affected family to receive Ksh.500,000. This financial aid is crucial in helping them rebuild their lives after the devastating fire incident. I urge President Ruto to prioritize this matter and ensure that every affected family receives the specified amount,” Odinga stated.

The Azimio co-principal criticized the government for allowing hazardous operations like the gas plant to operate within residential areas, posing significant risks to citizens.

“People are neglecting their responsibilities while putting the lives of Kenyans at risk. If the Azimio government were in power, the situation would be handled differently. Those responsible for the incident must face consequences swiftly. Investigations should not exceed 48 hours, as we already know where the fault lies,” Odinga asserted.
