Police are investigating an incident in which two people were shot dead in a robbery incident in Bungoma Town.
The two victims area woman and one of the robbers, who was shot by his accomplice.
The incident happened in the Musikoma area when a gang of three raided a general merchant shop. Police said the gang went to the shop and asked its owners, a man and his wife, to send all the day’s earnings to their mobile phone numbers.
In the process of the robbery, one of the gunmen grabbed a mobile phone from the man. This prompted his wife to raise the alarm in a bid to help her husband.
One of the robbers drew a pistol and fired eight shots killing the woman, Christine Otachi on the spot. The bullets also hit one of the accomplices of the gunman, who was standing behind the woman.
It is not clear if the slain suspect was targeted intentionally, police said. The other two gunmen grabbed Sh300,000 from the shop and fled on a motorcycle, police said.
Police who arrived at the scene recovered eight 7.62-mm-spent cartridges. The team recovered a mobile phone and a hammer.
