Authorities are probing an incident in which a worker lost his life while excavating a manhole on the property of former Aldai Member of Parliament, Cornelius Serem, in Eldoret.

The tragic occurrence unfolded on a Friday afternoon as the laborers were involved in digging a sewerage line within the Chepkatet area.

According to the police, the incident transpired as a deep sewer line was being constructed, leading to the collapse of loose soil into the trench, burying Joel Nyukuri, a 30-year-old worker. Fellow workers made desperate attempts to rescue him, but their efforts were in vain.

Another worker suffered injuries and was promptly taken to Race Course Hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition.

Authorities have took Nyukuri’s body to the mortuary, pending autopsy and further investigations. The ongoing police inquiry aims to ascertain whether the construction had the necessary approvals and whether the workers were equipped with the required safety gear.
