Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a man accused of raping and robbing a woman of her mobile phone and money.
39-year-old James Mwangi Wanjahi, police say, has been on the run since February 17, 2024, until his recent arrest in Kabete, Kiambu County. He is currently detained at Gilgil Police Station awaiting his arraignment.
According to the DCI, Wanjahi allegedly lured a 40-year-old woman into a purported business deal only to rape and rob her.
The incident in February involved Wanjahi posing as a customer and arranging a meeting with his victim in Nairobi to discuss a potential business opportunity.
However, upon boarding the supposed car provided by Wanjahi, the victim lost consciousness. Hours later, she regained consciousness only to find herself abandoned in a thicket in Gilgil. She had been robbed of Ksh. 17,000, partially disrobed, and subjected to sexual assault.
Wanjahi was located in his hideout in Kabete, where he was taken into custody. Additionally, a mobile phone stolen from the victim was recovered during the operation.
