Comedian behind ‘kata simu tupo site’ phrase is dead

Tanzanian comedian Umar Iahbedi Issa, known by his stage name ‘Mzee wa Mjegeje’, renowned for popularizing the catchphrase “Kata sumu tupo site” has passed away.

His manager, Real Jimmy, confirmed that the beloved comedian breathed his last at a hospital in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday.

The iconic phrase, which translates to “Hang up, I am on site”, has gained widespread popularity across online platforms in Kenya. Users often employ it to signify their presence or arrival at social gatherings, making it a cultural phenomenon.
