Police in Siaya are investigating a bizzare incident in which a man was hacked and seriously injured with a machete following a violent altercation with his neighbor over a chicken in Kodiaga market in Gem.

Thomas Oluoch, 42, reportedly received a hen from his neighbor, identified only as Shida, before allegedly passing it on to Shida’s friend, known as Rasta. This action sparked outrage from Shida when he discovered the hen was not returned to him.

According to Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo the matter was reported at the station by a Miriam Nyende.

“She informed the authorities that her cousin, Thomas Oluoch, had been attacked, sustaining injuries to his head. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered that Shida, in a fit of rage, had attacked Thomas with a machete, resulting in a severe head injury,” said the police commander.

The victim was rushed to Yala Sub-county Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Investigations into the matter have since commenced.

The assailant, identified as Shida, fled the scene following the attack, taking the weapon with him. Authorities are currently pursuing Shida, who remains at large.
