A man slaughtered his father and stepmother in a bizarre incident before he walked to a police station and surrendered himself in Kiirua, Meru County.
The grim incident came to light on Thursday evening, March 14, when a concerned resident contacted the authorities at Kiirua police station, reporting that a man had killed two individuals in the Kibirichia area of Buuri East Subcounty. Moments later, the suspect arrived at the station, brandishing the murder weapon, stained with blood.
Subsequently, the 35-year-old suspect was apprehended and placed in custody. Police swiftly responded by visiting the crime scene, where they discovered the lifeless bodies of the suspect’s father, Julius Kirimi, aged 67, and one of his wives, Eunice Kangai, aged 38. Both victims bore grievous wounds inflicted by a sharp object.
Kirimi suffered deep cuts to his right hand, right side of the head, left palm, and left shoulder, while Kangai exhibited deep cuts to her left upper hand, neck, head, and right ear. Initial investigations suggest that a longstanding family feud over a piece of land may have precipitated the tragic attack.
The bodies were subsequently transferred to the mortuary for further examination, pending an autopsy and comprehensive investigations. The murder weapon, identified as a panga, was secured as evidence as the inquiry progresses.
In the wake of the incident, tension gripped the area, prompting local leaders to intervene and restore calm. Eastern head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Lenny Kisaka, affirmed that a dedicated team is diligently pursuing the case.
Authorities intend to arraign the suspect in court and request an extension of his detention as investigations unfold. This grim episode underscores a troubling trend of rising violence in the region, often stemming from disputes over land and domestic matters.
