A cloud of shock descended upon Togonye village in Mwea East, Kirinyaga County, following a tragic incident where a man stabbed and killed his nephew. The harrowing event unfolded in Kamunyange, Murinduko Ward, leaving the community in disbelief.
According to police reports, the altercation occurred when 70-year-old Patrick Gichobi returned home in the evening after a drinking spree in the area. Tensions escalated between Gichobi and his nephew, leading to a heated argument that turned violent.
Family members, led by Margaret Waguama, recounted the fateful evening, stating, “The two got back home at around 5 pm. They had gone on a drinking spree in the area.” Sadly, the dispute took a tragic turn as Gichobi, in a fit of rage, grabbed a kitchen knife and fatally stabbed his nephew.
“He was found lying in a pool of blood. He died while undergoing treatment at Kerugoya Hospital,” lamented the grieving family.
As the community grapples with the shock of the incident, authorities have launched a manhunt for the suspect, who fled the scene following the fatal stabbing. Peter Wanjohi, a local resident, expressed concern over the suspect’s history of violent behavior, stating, “It is not the first time that the accused has attacked someone. He is fond of attacking people when drunk.”
