A devastating road accident involving five motor vehicles has claimed the lives of ten individuals, including a 2-year-old child. The tragic incident occurred on Monday around 8:30 pm in the Salama area along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.
Police authorities at Sultan Hamud reported that nine bodies were transported to the facility on Monday night, while the critically injured child later succumbed to their injuries.
Additionally, twelve individuals sustained injuries in the crash and were taken to the facility for medical attention, with some subsequently referred to Makindu Hospital for further treatment.
The collision unfolded when the driver of a lorry, traveling in the direction of Mombasa, failed to maintain their proper traffic lane and made an abrupt right turn. This action resulted in a collision with a matatu, which was then propelled into another vehicle, triggering a chain reaction involving a total of five vehicles.
