Umoja Expressways Company, responsible for the Nairobi Expressway, has announced a temporary service downtime affecting the payment of toll fees.

According to the company’s statement on Monday, the technical issue is attributed to external mobile money service providers.

“We wish to inform motorists of a temporary system downtime on mobile money affecting payment of toll fees. Updates will be provided as soon as the issue is resolved,” the company said.

While assuring users that the problem is temporary, the company apologized for any inconvenience caused.

“For your convenience, please register for the ETC service at your nearest Toll Station or prepare cash in advance while using the MTC lane

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused and are working closely with the external service provider to resolve the issue,” it said.

The toll rates for using the Nairobi Expressway range from a minimum of Sh170 to a maximum of Sh500 for saloon cars, a change from the previous rate of Sh360. These adjustments are influenced not only by the prevailing exchange rate but also by changes in the consumer price index (CPI). The company also mentioned that future adjustments to toll rates are anticipated.
