In a recent sermon, Pastor James Ng’ang’a of Neno Evangelism Centre addressed the importance of formalizing marriages through the payment of dowry.
He asserted that cohabiting without fulfilling this traditional obligation does not constitute a legitimate marriage. Ng’ang’a emphasized that paying dowry solidifies the union both spiritually and physically, offering protection against external interferences.
The pastor also noted that having children together does not validate a marriage in the absence of dowry payment, as such unions may still be prone to separation.
“Uko na mke na hujamlipia mahari, you are a liar. Do not say that she is your wife; she is just staying with you. Ukilipa mahari ni wako spiritually and physically, and no devil can take her. Lakini ukipretend tu… madhabao nimekwambia ni ile umelipia gharama. Kama mke ni wako na umelipia gharama huwezi kuja kunyang’anywa. Kama mmeokotana tu hapa mnaitana tu sweetheart na baby, mtawachana the same way,” Ng’ang’a stated.
