Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as is on Thursday set to unveil his new political party, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), in a move widely seen as a strategic effort to solidify his influence in the Mount Kenya region ahead of the 2027 general election.
Gachagua will formally announce the new party at a ceremony at the DCP headquarters on Musa Gitau Road in Lavington, Nairobi.
The announcement follows his resignation from President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on May 12, 2025, signaling a major political shift and setting the stage for what is expected to be a heated race for Central Kenya’s political loyalty.
Although Gachagua and his allies have maintained silence over the party’s name and plans in recent weeks, sources confirmed that DCP was officially registered on February 3, 2025. The secrecy was reportedly a calculated move to avoid early political interference.
“What we are doing tomorrow is the unveiling of the party. The launch of the party will happen later,” Gachagua said ahead of the launch of the new party.
He emphasized that the new political outfit will prioritize the needs and voices of the Mount Kenya electorate.
“The party will align with the aspirations of the Mt Kenya people. Its cardinal rule will be to listen to the ground,” he added.
