Four suspects, including three Ugandan nationals, have been arrested in Nairobi in connection with a planned armed robbery in Eastleigh. A police operation led to the recovery of three firearms: an AK-47 assault rifle and two pistols.
According to police, the Ugandans had entered the country to stage a robbery in Eastleigh, inspired by a previous successful heist in the area.
The arrests followed an investigation by a team from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters, which has been tracking leads related to a recent surge in violent robberies across Nairobi and parts of the western region. Police report that a well-organized gang has been carrying out the attacks “with impunity,” armed with pistols and an AK-47 rifle.
“These criminals have caused panic among the public, leading to the loss of millions of shillings and other valuables,” police said. Through careful profiling and forensic analysis, investigators were able to link the suspects to several crime scenes.
On May 22, the operation culminated in the arrest of three Ugandans and one Kenyan — identified as Sipholi Sam Wafula alias Sande, Alex Ogomba, Mohamed Musa, and Clinton Wafula. Nairobi Regional Police Commander George Seda confirmed the arrests, which took place in the Saika, Dandora, and Huruma areas.
Upon interrogation, Sipholi led officers to his rented house in Saika, where a Falcon pistol loaded with 11 bullets was found hidden under a pillow.
In a separate raid, Ogomba directed officers to his residence in Dandora, where police recovered an AK-47 assault rifle loaded with 30 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition. The rifle had a defaced serial number and was hidden under a sofa.
Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to determine the full extent of the gang’s operations and any additional suspects involved.
