Days after President William Ruto officially handed over more than 1,000 government-constructed housing units to residents of Mukuru kwa Njenga, only a single family has moved in. Of the 1,080 completed units, the rest remain locked, untouched, and still sealed with padlocks.
The slow uptake has sparked concerns about the eligibility and whereabouts of the remaining beneficiaries. Critics have questioned whether all the listed recipients are genuine residents of Mukuru kwa Njenga.
In response, the board overseeing the housing project has dismissed allegations that some of the beneficiaries are not legitimate. They have reiterated that the official move-in date is June 1, 2025, suggesting that the delay is in line with planned timelines.
