Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has officially declared a vacancy in the seat held by nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba, following her dramatic fallout with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
In a gazette notice issued on Wednesday, Speaker Kingi confirmed that Orwoba’s exit is effective from May 21, sealing her fate after weeks of mounting tension with her party.
⚖️ UDA Drops the Hammer
The move comes hot on the heels of UDA’s decision to expel Orwoba, citing gross misconduct and serious violations of the party’s constitution and code of conduct.
According to UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar, the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) reached a unanimous decision to expel the outspoken senator — a decision based on findings from the party’s Disciplinary Committee.
📣 “Damaging the Party’s Image”
Senator Orwoba was accused of multiple offenses, including:
- Making public statements that tarnished UDA’s reputation
- Repeatedly ignoring summonses and failing to respond to disciplinary proceedings
Her refusal to engage with the party’s internal processes ultimately sealed her political fate — at least under the UDA banner.
