IG Douglas Kanja speaks on Samidoh’s redeployment

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has responded to widespread speculation surrounding the transfer of police officer and popular musician Samuel Muchoki, better known as Samidoh.

Reports had surfaced suggesting that the officer was being disciplined following a public appearance during one of his musical performances. It was alleged that Samidoh joined the crowd in chanting “wantam”—a distorted version of “one term,” a slogan adopted by critics of President William Ruto as a campaign message for the 2027 elections.

As a result, it was claimed that Samidoh would be transferred from his current station to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) based in Gilgil, Nakuru County, as part of a disciplinary measure pending further decisions by his superiors.

However, speaking to the press on Wednesday, May 28, IG Kanja downplayed the disciplinary angle, noting that police transfers are common and governed by internal procedures.

“Police officers are civil servants and are subject to regulations and procedures, including transfers. If the officer you have mentioned is one of us, then he is subject to those conditions. Therefore, he may have been redeployed or transferred to the area he is currently in,” Kanja stated.

While he did not confirm or deny the specific reasons behind Samidoh’s transfer, Kanja emphasized that such moves are often part of routine operations within the police service.
