Mangelete Village, Makueni County – A peaceful rural village has been shaken to its core after a man was arrested in connection with the murder of his 76-year-old father, in what police describe as a chilling attempt to disguise a brutal killing as suicide.

The 31-year-old suspect is accused of taking the life of his father, Peter Kailu Nzango, following a heated dispute over the felling of trees on the family land.

🪓 From Argument to Alleged Murder

According to investigators, tensions between father and son had been simmering over the management of trees on their homestead. On May 20, the disagreement escalated into deadly violence.

Witnesses told police the suspect allegedly assaulted the elderly man, hitting and strangling him during a confrontation. The disturbing sequence of events didn’t end there.

In an apparent bid to cover up the crime, the assailant is said to have tied a rope around his father’s neck, dragged his lifeless body into a nearby bush, and hanged it on a low tree branch to stage a suicide.

🚨 Police Uncover the Truth

Officers responding to the scene noted bruises on the deceased’s legs — clear signs of a struggle that didn’t match a typical hanging. Suspicious of foul play, they launched an immediate manhunt.

The suspect was arrested shortly after in the local area, and is now in custody as police continue their investigation.

⚖️ Autopsy and Justice Await

The body of Peter Kailu Nzango has been transferred to the mortuary, where an autopsy will be conducted to establish the full circumstances of his death.

Police say the case is being treated as murder, and further charges may follow as forensic analysis and witness statements are reviewed.
