President William Ruto’s Senior Economic Adviser, Moses Kuria, has announced that his political party, Chama Cha Kazi, will participate in upcoming by-elections, signaling plans to revive the outfit ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Sunday, May 11, Kuria revealed that the party, which many believed to have been dissolved in 2022, is preparing to make a political comeback as soon as the new Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) sets the election date.

“As we prepare to swear in the new IEBC, this party, which was founded on August 17, 2021, is the party to watch. By-elections are looming. Battle Royale,” Kuria declared.

The announcement marks a shift from October 2022, when Chama Cha Kazi formally initiated a merger process with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA). At the time, the party notified the Registrar of Political Parties of its intention to merge, inviting members to submit their views in accordance with its constitution.

“Chama Cha Kazi would like to issue notice to all members… of the decision to merge with the United Democratic Alliance,” the party’s notice read, inviting feedback within 21 days.

The merger move coincided with Kuria’s nomination as Cabinet Secretary for Trade and Industry, a position he held shortly after the 2022 general election and just over a year after forming the party.
