A woman was arrested on Friday at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) as she allegedly attempted to traffic cocaine to Goa, India.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect was intercepted by Anti-Narcotics Unit officers during a routine check before boarding her flight.
“Her travel plans hit turbulence when sharp-sighted detectives flagged her down for a routine check. A quick inspection of her luggage led to the discovery of two suspicious smaller bags tucked inside,” the DCI said in a statement.
Upon opening the bags, officers reportedly found a white powdery substance, meticulously packed and wrapped in yellow cello tape. A spot test confirmed the substance to be cocaine, with a total weight of 1.3 kilograms.
The suspect is currently being held at the JKIA Police Station as investigations continue. Authorities said she is undergoing processing and is expected to appear in court soon.
The confiscated drugs have been secured as exhibits in the ongoing case.
This arrest comes amid intensified national efforts to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse across Kenya.
