Residents of Majengo, Mombasa, were left in shock after a 16-year-old boy began imitating the sounds of goats and chickens—animals he claims to have stolen in Nairobi just weeks earlier.
According to an official police report (OB 21/28/6/2025) from Makupa Police Station, the teen, identified as Baraka Joseph, was escorted to Majengo Police Post by concerned members of the public after being spotted behaving abnormally at the Majengo Sokoni Market around 11 a.m. on June 28, 2025.
“He could not speak, only bleated and clucked like the animals he confessed to stealing,” a witness told officers.
In a handwritten statement, Baraka confessed to stealing two goats and two chickens from a Kamba man’s homestead in Nairobi on April 20, 2025. He claimed to have sold the livestock for KSh 3,000 and KSh 1,000, respectively.
He noted that he had full speech capabilities when he left Nairobi on June 4, 2025, but bizarrely lost his voice upon arriving in Mombasa—replacing human speech with bleats and clucks.
Police at the station were unable to determine if Baraka’s condition was medical, psychological, or spiritual, and have since referred him to Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital for further evaluation.
