Detectives in Embu County have arrested six individuals in connection with a string of looting incidents that occurred during the Gen Z-led protests on June 25, 2025.
In a statement released by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects were found in possession of various stolen items believed to have been taken during the demonstrations that descended into chaos in parts of the county.
Those arrested include Peter Mugane Kuria, 22, Ian Macharia Wangare, 19, and Joseph Musila Mugo, 45, who was found with a stolen washing machine,Maxwell Wafula Ongae, 28, after discovering a stash of assorted retail products allegedly stolen from a local shop at his residence.
Jackson Njagi, 29, was arrested after police recovered bottles of stolen whisky and a bundle of steel wire in his possession.
Brian Mbuvi, 26, was found at Downtown Guest House with a trove of looted items, including two desktop computers, a television set, three pairs of boots, several wristwatches, jackets, new jeans trousers, and extension cables.
“The suspects will face looting-related charges and are expected to appear in Embu Law Courts on Monday, June 30,” a DCI officer confirmed.
Authorities are continuing their investigations to identify and arrest other individuals believed to have participated in the looting and destruction of property during the June 25 protests, which erupted in multiple counties across the country.
