NAIROBI, Kenya, June 25, 2025 – Seasoned Kenyan football tactician Robert Matano is poised to become the new head coach of Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) FC, in a major move aimed at reviving the club’s trophy ambitions.
Sources close to the club told Sauce.co.ke that the official unveiling of Matano is scheduled for Friday morning, signaling a fresh chapter for the bankers after parting ways with former coach Patrick ‘Luwowo’ Odhiambo in May.
A Trophy-Laden Legacy
Matano brings with him one of the most decorated résumés in Kenyan football. He won the Kenyan Premier League with Sofapaka in 2009, and guided Tusker FC to three league titles in 2012, 2020/21, and 2021/22.
Besides his championship pedigree, Matano has managed elite clubs including AFC Leopards, Ulinzi Stars, Kenya Pipeline FC, and World Hope—now known as Nairobi City Stars.
His tactical mastery and leadership are expected to bring direction to a KCB team that, despite having a strong squad, has consistently missed out on major silverware.
KCB’s Turbulent Season
The bankers endured a challenging 2024/25 FKF Premier League season, finishing in ninth place. After a poor string of results, KCB showed coach Odhiambo the door. In the interim, goalkeeper trainer Samuel Koko stepped in as caretaker, providing temporary stability.
The club hopes that Matano’s arrival will inject a winning mentality into the squad and position KCB FC as serious title contenders in the upcoming season.
