Tragedy struck at Ainamoi Police Station on Wednesday after two police officers—one attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the other from the general police service—were electrocuted to death while installing a radio communication mast.

According to local reports, the officers were in the process of erecting the metallic mast when it suddenly gave way, collapsing and coming into contact with live power lines overhead.

Eyewitnesses say the weight and angle of the collapsing structure offered the officers no chance to escape. They were electrocuted instantly. Their bodies were later moved to the Ainamoi Sub-County Hospital morgue.

Local authorities and officers from the Kericho County Police Command have launched an internal probe to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether proper safety protocols and coordination with Kenya Power were followed.
