Two police officers were killed on Tuesday in a tragic road accident involving their official vehicle and a fuel tanker at Matisi area along the Webuye-Bungoma Road.

The victims, identified as a police driver and a sergeant, were attached to the Railways Police Unit in Bungoma. Both officers died on the spot due to the impact of the crash.

According to Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud, the officers were traveling in a Ford Ranger from Webuye toward Bungoma when the incident occurred.

“On reaching the location of the accident, he improperly overtook other vehicles and collided head-on with a motor vehicle Mercedes-Benz trailer driven from the opposite direction,” Mohamud stated.

The crash left both officers with severe multiple body injuries. However, police confirmed that their two rifles were recovered from the scene and are safe.

The trailer driver sustained injuries and complained of pain but survived the accident. The bodies of the deceased officers were taken to the mortuary for autopsy as investigations into the incident continue.
