Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has officially declared Friday, June 6, 2025, a public holiday in observance of Eid-ul-Adha, one of the most significant festivals in the Islamic calendar.
The announcement was made through a gazette notice issued on Wednesday, in which the Cabinet Secretary exercised his authority under the Public Holidays Act.
“It is notified for the general information of the public that in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2 (1) of the Public Holidays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares that Friday, 6th June, 2025, shall be a public holiday to mark Eid-ul-Adha,” read the notice.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is a deeply revered occasion for Muslims around the world. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God.
The festival also coincides with the end of Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, which is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and a duty for Muslims who are physically and financially able to perform it.
