A 42-year-old M-Pesa operator was shot and injured after two armed robbers raided his business at Moss Market in Nyarongi Sub-location, Otachi Location, Suna East, Migori County.
The incident occurred on Thursday, August 20, 2026, as the businessman was reportedly closing his shop.
According to police, the two attackers were armed with a firearm believed to be a pistol. They allegedly demanded money from the operator before stealing approximately KSh200,000 from the M-Pesa shop.
M-Pesa Operator Shot in the Thigh
After taking the money, the attackers allegedly shot the victim in the left thigh, causing heavy bleeding.
The man also sustained a head injury and a bruise on his neck during the incident.
The robbers reportedly proceeded to an adjacent shop, where they stole another KSh30,000, before fleeing the market.
Members of the public who heard the gunshots rushed to the scene, but the suspects managed to escape into the darkness.
Victim Hospitalised
The injured M-Pesa operator was rushed to Oasis Hospital in Migori town, where he was admitted in stable condition.
Police officers visited him at the hospital before proceeding to the scene to begin investigations.
Investigators said they recovered one spent bullet head, which they suspected had been fired from a revolver.
Police are pursuing the two suspects and investigating the circumstances surrounding the robbery and shooting.
